Making up for lost time, one more time.

They had lazed about for most of the day, mostly just because they could, and even when one or the other of them got up to use the bathroom or retrieve a book, they always came right back, as if somehow that bed held all the secrets of the universe. Come afternoon, Eames went to get his laptop, doing some research to find a restaurant for dinner, coming up with a few nearby and just deciding by what was closest, since he figured the walk would do them both good.
He even made a reservation, just to make sure they'd have a seat, even though as far as he could tell they were wide open as far as space.

"Are you ready, Arthur?" He called back towards the bedroom from where he was perched on the couch, having settled there after he'd gotten dressed, waiting for the other man to finish his shower, though the water had been off for a while.

Which she did within short order, collecting plates and glasses and smiling at them, he ordered a slice of plum kuchen for himself, since it was one of those things that was regional and he only ever had it when he was actually in Germany

Arthur ordered a slice of their caramel cake. It was something he got a craving for every once in a while (despite it being his favorite kind of cake).

Eames shook his head at that that choice, "No idea how you can eat that." He said, sitting back in his chair, completely comfortable at the moment, even in the noise of the dinner crowd, everyone seemed to be having a good time, and that always helped to settle him.

Smirking, "Well, it being absolutely delicious helps."

The noise of the dinner crowd was a bit comforting to Arthur; it meant they were all busy doing their own thing and would leave Arthur and Eames alone to do their thing.

He shook his head, "I'm not arguing the flavor, really, it's lovely, but caramel isn't supposed to be roughly the same consistency as snot. It's supposed to be able to yank fillings out if you're not careful."

Arthur wrinkled his nose at the comparison, "Someone's bitter about liquid caramel."

He laughed then, wholly amused in the way he was best at, shaking his head, "Hardly bitter, I just don't see the point in thinning something out that doesn't rightly need it. It's like people insisting on fat free milk, what's the point?"

Arthur rolled his eyes, "Your comparisons are hardly appropriate. Liquid caramel is not pointless when it is just another way of eating something - like having regular cream or ice cream. Not to mention liquid caramel is easy on the teeth, tastes just as good if not better than hard caramel, and feels very nice on the tongue. Especially when it's warm." And it did.

[Although, Arthur probably said that more suggestively than was necessary.]

"Now who's got a hardly appropriate comparison?" He said, "Regular cream and ice cream are two completely different things, one's a condiment and one's a dessert. That's like comparing chocolate chips to a fudge torte."

His smile went crooked, "And if it's feel you're after, hot fudge is a far preferential option."

Arthur shrugged, "At least I stuck with food; you're the one who compared liquid caramel to a bodily secretion. And cream and ice cream and chocolate chips and fudge torte both contain the same basic ingredient, thus, it is not that far of a stretch."

Arthur's smirk went a little mischievous, "To you maybe. I prefer liquid caramel. Although I'm not against mixing the two together."

"That's rather my point, I suspect, caramel shouldn't be a sauce. It's already perfectly acceptable as it is." There was a huff of a laugh then, shaking his head, "You do realize we're arguing about desserts, don't you?"

"And I like it as a sauce. I find that is perfectly acceptable."

Then, trying not to laugh, "Only because you decided to knock mine! I didn't say anything about your plum thing when you ordered that, now did I?" And, really, this wasn't the most ridiculous argument they had had...

"Yes, but do you even know what a kuchen is?" He figured he had an idea, since it just meant 'cake', but that was beside the point at the moment.

There was another smile of his own, shaking his head, "It's almost as bad as when we got into a dust up over jacket colors."

"Plum cake. Basically. But that's beside the point because plums are weird."

Arthur nodded, "Which you also started." Eames had chosen one that looked like vomit-orange and Arthur just couldn't accept looking at that.

"Plums are delicious, especially when they're in a proper cake." He shrugged at the rest of it, "I suppose I did, generally do, don't I?"

"Well, that's how I feel about liquid caramel." His tone indicating that that was a very valid point.

A small smile, "Sometimes. Other times it's my fault." That was definitely a rare thing for Arthur to admit to. But, at this point in their relationship (and being in a relatively decent mood at the moment), Arthur felt it was only fair. And true.

Sometimes it wasn't anything Eames had done or hadn't done. Sometimes it was purely Arthur and whatever personal hang-ups he had.

And sometimes, often, Eames did it on purpose just to needle the other man because he could. He did, however, smile at the admission, giving a shrug, "I suppose it is, on occasion."

Oh, Arthur knew the other man would do that at times (and those were usually the times when he didn't mind making Eames look like a kicked puppy - although that indifference didn't last very long).

However, at the words, there was a slightly bemusement look. And Eames accused Arthur of being intentionally vague...

He couldn't help but smile again when their desserts arrived, giving the waitress another thank you before he dug in, very nearly purring when he found that the cake was warmed through.

Arthur, when tasting his cake, couldn't restrain the noise that came out of him, "Mmmgod." It was warm and the icing and caramel were perfectly blended. It practically melted in his mouth. He also licked the caramel from his lips, some of it dripping as he took another bite.

That was just thoroughly distracting as far as Eames was concerned, pausing for a moment, fork hovering somewhere between plate and mouth, blinking twice. He shook his head a moment later, snapping that bite up before it could crumble back off the fork again.

Arthur didn't notice Eames' reaction. He was far too engrossed in this incredible cake before him. Dear God, it hit the craving and satisfied it completely. He really had to refrain from making more noises (but a few did escape as he tasted more of the icing).

He also took to licking his fork, just to make sure none of it got away from him.

Eames had been nibbling at his own, it was good, though apparently not as good as Arthur's was, though he knew that was comparitive and he just got distracted all over again at the fork-licking.

Arthur finally noticed Eames' look, but thought he had just paused in his eating and didn't notice the staring, pausing with his own eating, "What? Is yours not good?"

He grinned then, "Delicious, actually, though apparently not as distracting as yours is." Distracting for Eames, that was. He went back to taking small bites, just savoring it as he was prone to doing, still watching Arthur out of the corner of his eye.
